About the Role

This entry‑level position provides essential support to the On‑Course Supervisor and Bank Controller during race days. You will help maintain smooth betting operations, ensure accurate cash handling, coordinate staff, and deliver excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Support the On‑Course Environment

  • Assist the On‑Course Supervisor in coordinating all betting operations.
  • Monitor operator performance and allocate resources to maintain service levels.
  • Prepare, review and analyse race‑day reports on headcount, turnover, and transaction volumes.
  • Respond promptly to customer complaints, payment disputes and service issues.
  • Support the Hollywoodbets Durban July (HDJ) recruitment and training programme – onboarding, training coordination and performance feedback.
  • Ensure all procedures, cash handling policies and the code of conduct are followed.

Support the On‑Course Bank

  • Assist the Bank Controller with float preparation, verification and issuing for all booths.
  • Maintain accurate records of cash movements (floats, transfers, collections).
  • Ensure on‑course ATMs are stocked with sufficient cash for the event.
  • Distribute additional cash to booths during race day while keeping clear audit trails.
  • Verify and record return of booth cash and floats at day end.
  • Conduct reconciliation and balancing of all incoming monies, updating results on control systems.
  • Prepare and submit all required banking and finance paperwork to the Finance Department on time.
  • Maintain oversight of bank and main vault balances, ensuring funds are secure and accounted for.

Operational Compliance & Coordination

  • Adhere to internal controls, financial procedures and operational standards.
  • Support logistics for booth setup, signage and betting materials.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators and admin staff to ensure smooth task flow.
  • Identify and report operational inefficiencies or procedural gaps for continuous improvement.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all cash and customer dealings.

Customer & Stakeholder Service

  • Provide efficient, courteous assistance to racegoers, operators and internal staff.
  • Maintain a positive, professional image of Hollywoodbets and Race Coast KwaZulu‑Natal in all interactions.
  • Work with customer service teams to enhance the on‑course experience.

Performance Indicators

  • Accuracy and timeliness of race‑day reporting.
  • Reduction in customer complaints and transaction errors.
  • 100% float and vault reconciliation accuracy.
  • Timely submission of finance reports.
  • Compliance with audit and operational control requirements.
  • Effective communication and recommended process improvements.
  • Positive customer and staff feedback within acceptable time frames.

Required Experience & Competencies

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in retail, events, banking or racing/betting environments with cash handling and reconciliation exposure.
  • Supervisory or coordination experience in a customer‑facing role is preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong numerical and reconciliation skills.
  • Familiarity with betting systems, financial control procedures or on‑course operations is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team‑oriented and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
