Program Overview

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport offers a career development opportunity for 200 candidates to train as Provincial Traffic Inspectors. This intensive program includes full-time study at Pietermaritzburg Traffic Training College followed by practical placement at road traffic stations across the province.

Career Path & Remuneration:
  • Year 1-2 Training Phase: R193,359 annual salary (Level 04)
  • Post-Training Appointment: Provincial Inspector position at Salary Level 6 after successful diploma completion

Note: Failure to complete diploma requirements will result in employment termination

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
  • Valid manual driving license (Code B/EB or higher)
  • Clean criminal record (must provide SAPS clearance)
  • South African citizen/permanent resident
  • Maximum age 35 years at training commencement
  • Medical fitness certificate (valid within 3 months)
Key Competencies:
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication in English & local languages
  • Proficiency in legal interpretation
  • Physical stamina for field operations
  • Team collaboration skills

Key Duties (Post-Qualification)

  • Enforce road traffic & transport legislation
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and license testing
  • Manage accident investigations and hazardous zones
  • Implement traffic control measures
  • Coordinate special operations (roadblocks, escorts)
  • Provide public safety education

Conditions of Service

  • 24/7 shift rotation including weekends/holidays
