Cleaner – Operations Support (Aviation)

Job Purpose

The Cleaner is responsible for keeping all contracted aircraft (including PBTH and third‑party), hangars and operational premises clean, safe and hygienic. The role covers interior and exterior aircraft cleaning, supports technical cleaning tasks and ensures that all standards meet aviation hygiene and safety requirements.


Principal Accountabilities

Interior Aircraft Cleaning

  • Clean interiors of SAA and customer aircraft.
  • Deep clean aircraft toilets and carpets.
  • Clean screens, headphones, chairs and cockpit areas.
  • Operate trash compactors and clean galleys.

Exterior Aircraft Cleaning

  • Perform exterior aircraft washing and polishing.
  • Use equipment such as stackers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers and skyjacks.
  • Conduct aircraft glazing and exterior detailing.

Hangar Cleaning & Technical Support

  • Clean hangar floors and manage hazardous spillages.
  • Empty drip trays containing oil, fuel or Skydrol.
  • Empty domestic and hazardous waste.
  • Sweep the hangar and operate the floor scrubber.
  • Position aircraft stands, wash hangars and basins.
  • Clean mechanics’ stores.

Premises Cleaning

  • Collect loose papers and remove foreign objects.
  • Remove cut boxes, pallets, nails and other waste.
  • Sweep streets and parking lots.
  • Empty recycling bins and sort boxes for recycling.
  • Operate the trash compactor.

Aircraft Component Cleaning

  • Clean aircraft components using approved chemicals.
  • Perform landing gear washes and operate the WAP machine.
  • Deep clean aircraft and toilet components.
  • Clean cargo rails and removable items such as chairs.
  • Clean spillages within aircraft and cargo areas.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
  • At least 6 months of experience in the appearance section of a general aviation environment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of South African Technical policies.
  • Able to operate cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Proficiency in handling equipment such as lifts, scrubbers and WAP machines.
