About the Role
Join our coastal safety team to protect beachgoers at Cape Town’s shoreline areas. This seasonal position requires vigilant water safety monitoring and emergency response coordination at designated beaches and tidal pools.
Essential Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Grade 10 certificate + 6 months Surf Lifesaving Club experience, OR
- Previous seasonal lifeguard experience, OR
- 5 years lifesaving experience with valid Lifeguard Award
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Current Surf Lifeguard/Rescue Swimmer Certification
- Level 2 First Aid Certificate (Valid)
- Clean criminal record
- Successful drug screening
- Code A/EB driver’s license (preferred)
Key Responsibilities
- Execute water rescues and emergency responses
- Administer first aid and maintain incident documentation
- Conduct coastal surveillance and public safety patrols
- Educate visitors on beach safety protocols
- Coordinate with law enforcement for missing children cases
- Maintain professional conduct and City uniform standards
- Follow senior staff directives and safety procedures
Important Requirements
- Availability for shift work including weekends/holidays
- Physical fitness maintenance through regular testing
- Willingness to work at multiple coastal locations
- Immediate renewal of expired certifications prohibited
