About the Opportunity
Nedbank is offering a Youth Employment Service (YES) programme that gives young South Africans the chance to gain real work experience in a contact‑centre environment. The programme is designed to improve employability and equip participants with skills that are demanded by today’s job market.
Successful applicants will join the Contact Centre in Umhlanga Rocks, supporting the Personal and Private Banking divisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional and efficient client service through calls, emails and other communication channels.
- Promote Nedbank’s values of integrity, respect, accountability and client‑centric service.
- Assist with sales, service or collections tasks – resolving client queries or managing arrears accounts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients while positioning Nedbank as the bank of choice.
- Collaborate with the team to achieve excellent performance and share best practices.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
- Age between 18 and 29 years (born between November 1995 and November 2007).
- Currently unemployed.
- First participation in a YES programme.
- South African‑born African, Coloured or Indian citizen (as defined in the BBBEE Act 53 of 2003).
- Valid South African ID.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong written and spoken English; additional South African languages are a plus.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, etc.).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to work 8‑hour shifts, including weekends and public holidays if required.
Work Location and Residency
This is an onsite role at Nedbank Park Square Campus, Umhlanga Rocks, Durban North.
Because the stipend is not a full salary, applicants are encouraged to live within a 30–35 km radius of Umhlanga. Nearby areas include:
- North of Umhlanga: Umhlanga Ridge, La Lucia, Mount Edgecombe, Verulam, Tongaat, KwaMashu, Phoenix, etc.
- Central Durban & Surrounds: Durban North, Morningside, Berea, Overport, Sydenham, Umbilo, etc.
- Western Suburbs: Westville, Pinetown, Malvern, Queensburgh, Reservoir Hills, and nearby areas.
