Purpose of the Position

The main goal of this role is to support the Office of the Chief Justice by handling messenger and delivery tasks. This includes safely moving mail, court documents, and other items inside and outside the division. The position helps keep office operations running smoothly and efficiently.


Minimum Requirements

  • Education: A Grade 10 certificate or ABET (NQF Level 2) qualification.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in driving or working as a messenger in a corporate or government setting. This is advantageous but not always required.
  • Driver’s Licence: A valid Code B or EB driver’s licence is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

To succeed in this role, you will need the following:

  • Knowledge of standard messenger and delivery procedures.
  • Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and the rules for using official vehicles.
  • Understanding of basic public service administrative practices.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
  • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and good time management.
  • The skill to keep accurate records of all deliveries.
  • Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office tools like Word and Excel.
  • A customer-focused approach with a strong sense of reliability.
  • The ability to work independently and handle pressure effectively.
  • Attention to detail, a sense of accountability, and the ability to work well in a team.

Key Responsibilities

As a Messenger, your daily duties will include the following tasks to ensure smooth operations:

  • Collecting, delivering, and distributing mail, court documents, parcels, and files between different offices and departments.
  • Sorting and recording all incoming and outgoing correspondence in the official delivery register.
  • Making sure that recipients sign for any items they receive and maintaining detailed delivery records for accountability.
  • Providing routine office support, such as copying documents, sending faxes, and shredding sensitive papers as needed.
  • Monitoring the condition of official vehicles and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are always roadworthy, clean, and serviced according to the scheduled maintenance plan.
  • Completing trip authority forms and logging all official trips accurately to track usage.
  • Assisting with general office duties and running errands as required by the team.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality in all tasks and following the Batho Pele Principles, which focus on putting people first in public service delivery.
