Role Overview

The Apprentice Millwright will learn to repair and maintain all machines and equipment at the Weir Isando site. Working under a qualified artisan, you will gain practical skills in electrical work, mechanical repair, and plant maintenance across our foundry, machine shop, and rubber plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete all theoretical and practical training modules required for the apprenticeship.
• Assist artisans with repairs, fault finding and daily machine inspections.
• Learn basic PLC programming and automation to improve machine performance.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings; create sketches or simple designs when needed.
• Collaborate with artisans, foremen, planners and production staff; accept and give constructive feedback.
• Commit to a zero‑harm safety culture and follow all safety procedures.
• Continuously learn and apply new skills to enhance plant operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
• Experience in a production or maintenance environment is a plus.
• Higher qualification (N5/N6 in Engineering) is an advantage.
