Position Summary
The National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS) node at UKZN is seeking an Assistant Administrative Officer to support researchers, postgraduate students, and post‑doctoral fellows. The role requires a detail‑oriented individual capable of working independently and accurately under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle financial and general administration tasks related to research activities.
- Arrange domestic and international travel and accommodation bookings.
- Process salary appointment forms and bursary payments.
- Manage procurement, claims, cost recovery and extract financial reports.
- Organise conferences, workshops and other academic events.
- Use scientific typesetting software and maintain liaison with NRF and NITheCS.
- Provide general office support and maintain accurate records.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric certificate plus one year of relevant qualification.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar environment.
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience in financial administration.
- Short‑listed candidates may be required to complete a skills test.
