Job Overview
The Switchboard Operator will manage all inbound telephone calls, ensuring they reach the correct person or department quickly and professionally. The role requires efficient multitasking, clear communication, and adherence to company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer calls within 15 seconds.
- Welcome callers courteously and use the approved switchboard script.
- Transfer calls to the right extension or record detailed messages.
- Handle emergency calls and update emergency contact lists.
- Maintain the switchboard database accurately.
- Follow Tsebo’s SHEQ standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001).
- Manage difficult callers with respect and diplomacy.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access).
- Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
- Professional, customer‑focused attitude.
Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- Secretarial or Telephonist Certificate/Diploma (advantageous).
- 1–2 years’ experience in a similar environment.
- Customer service experience and familiarity with a busy electronic board.
