Job Purpose

To prepare and deliver exceptional beverage services within the banqueting and/or restaurant operations. The successful candidate will ensure that all internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are continuously met and professionally executed, providing guests with a high-quality experience.

Key Performance Areas

Prepared Work Area

• Prepare mise-en-place and conduct all necessary checks and preparations before service begins.
• Identify and report any issues related to the bar display and surrounding areas, including the appearance and functionality of equipment.
• Stock the bar adequately for service.
• Ensure the cleanliness of your assigned section or service station.

Service Execution

• Stay updated on food products, beverage trends, and drink methodologies required to deliver menus effectively.
• Perform all tasks in accordance with Food & Beverage standard operating procedures.
• Take guest orders accurately and in a timely manner, and input them into the system.
• Explain menu items and make knowledgeable recommendations regarding the beverage menu.
• Mix and present drinks according to guest orders and outlet standards.
• Be attentive to guest requests and needs throughout service.
• Clear glasses promptly after guests have finished their drinks.
• Provide accurate billing to guests and handle payments.
• Conduct cash-ups at the end of each service shift.
• Complete beverage stock sheets after every shift.
• Identify and leverage opportunities to upsell promotional items.

Bar Standards

• Understand and adhere to all Food & Beverage standard operating procedures.
• Maintain awareness of and comply with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations in the outlets.
• Use and store operating equipment in line with specifications and safety regulations.
• Participate in scheduled stock takes.
• Perform daily stock counts of bar smalls.
• Resolve or report any anomalies or discrepancies to the required standards.
• Report any breakages or damages at the end of your shift.

Customer Engagement

• Identify customers and understand their preferences to provide personalized service.
• Connect with all guests by offering a warm welcome, greeting them with a friendly smile, and acknowledging them upon arrival and departure, ensuring respect at all times.
• Interact professionally with guests, providing high service standards and effective solutions.
• Educate customers on business unit facilities, products, reward programmes, and current promotions.
• Handle customer complaints, requests, and suggestions effectively, escalating issues when necessary to ensure resolution.

Requirements

Education

• Grade 12 qualification is preferred.
• Grade 10 will be considered if accompanied by relevant experience.

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a bartender.

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to work shifts that meet operational requirements.
• Physically capable of moving operating equipment as needed.
• Open attitude towards performing similar functions in alternative outlets due to operational demands.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of beverage and cocktail products.
• Barrister skills are an advantage.
• Proficiency in the use and care of operating equipment.
• Expertise in beverage service.
• Excellent communication and upselling skills.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Experience in cashiering services.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Skill in collecting information through active listening and asking relevant questions.
• Ability to deal effectively with customers.
• Capability to follow instructions accurately and ask questions when clarification is needed.
• Team cooperation and collaboration.
