We are dedicated to rehabilitating and compensating persons injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely and caring manner, and we actively promote the safe use of our roads.

Purpose of the Job

The Officer: Claims Investigations is responsible for effectively and efficiently providing investigative support services for claims lodged against the Road Accident Fund (RAF). This role is crucial in ensuring that claims are processed accurately, fairly, and in a timely manner.

Key Performance Areas

Investigation and Assessment of Claims Lodged

  • Trace insured drivers and witnesses to consult and obtain statements and dockets.
  • Ensure a proper sketch plan of an accident scene is drawn as part of the investigation and assessment process.
  • Take clear photographs of the accident scene, faces of interviewed individuals, damaged vehicles, and injuries.
  • Obtain and verify existing affidavits from various parties, including claimants, witnesses, and employers.
  • Identify possible fraud and corruption and escalate findings to the Forensic Investigation Department (FID).
  • Testify in court cases when a claimant is accused of fraud.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring witness presence at court proceedings.

Administrative Support

  • Validate supporting documents for all related quantum investigations, including employment details, paternity/maternity details, and SARS documents.
  • Verify details of the claimant and those injured in an accident through Natis and Cross Check systems (e.g., ID numbers, contact numbers, addresses, employment details).
  • Verify details of secondary vehicles involved in the accident to determine ownership.
  • Quality check supporting documents from stakeholders to determine the validity of the logged claim.
  • Validate loss of earnings claims.
  • Provide progress reports as per internal service level agreements.

Document and Records Management

  • Monitor and maintain an effective filing system.
  • Ensure files are correctly categorized and stored for smooth document retrieval.
  • Administer records management and filing processes in line with the RAF filing plan.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all documents under control and that correspondence reaches intended recipients.
  • Perform file retrieval in Archive Services as needed.

Stakeholder Management

  • Provide advice to various parties, including claimants, witnesses, and employers.
  • Handle any assessments associated complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

  • NQF 7 (Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma) in a related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Completed training as an investigator will be an added advantage.
  • Certification as a fraud examiner will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar environment.
  • Experience in merit and quantum investigations is highly advantageous.
