About the Role

RCL FOODS is looking for a motivated Research and Development Intern to join our Grocery Division. The role is a 12‑month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) reporting to the Senior New Product Development Technologist. The internship will be based in Randfontein and will involve supporting product development projects from idea to launch.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the creation and launch of new products.
• Support the development of both new and existing products.
• Schedule and conduct factory trials, and attend first production runs to ensure smooth execution.
• Compile finished product specifications and update existing ones as changes occur.
• Source and approve new raw materials, following the approval and change management process.
• Generate and maintain product specifications for submission to the Technical Department.
• Set up and conduct sensory evaluations to assess product quality and performance.
• Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to assist with root cause analysis.
• Support the artwork approval process, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
• Compile DHACCP studies for new raw materials to meet food safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Currently pursuing a Diploma in Food Science or a related field (in‑service training required to complete the qualification).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and collaborate across departments.
• Good time‑management and organizational skills.
