About the Opportunity

RCL FOODS is offering an exciting opportunity for five (5) dedicated individuals to join our Spreads Division as Millwright Apprentices. This is a structured 3-year fixed-term contract designed to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience, paving the way for a successful career as a qualified Millwright. You will be based at our Siqalo Foods facility in Boksburg and will report directly to the Engineering Site Services Lead.

The primary purpose of this role is to develop the technical competence and practical skills required to perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installations safely and effectively. Under the guidance of experienced Millwrights and mentors, you will gain invaluable exposure to industrial mechanical systems, tools, and processes, all while contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of our plant.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Science.
• An N3 to N6 qualification with relevant trade subjects is highly advantageous.
• Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

As an apprentice, your learning journey will encompass a wide range of tasks, including:

• Performing non-specialized maintenance tasks within a specific unit.
• Assisting with the diagnosis and interpretation (fault finding) of mechanical problems to optimize production output.
• Participating effectively in carrying out plant repairs alongside your team.
• Ensuring high service levels by assisting with breakdown, preventative, and predictive maintenance activities.
• Contributing to breakdown reduction initiatives by analyzing failures and adhering to planned maintenance schedules.
• Participating in strategic engineering plans and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) activities.
• Identifying major engineering losses in your area and participating in problem-solving using methodologies like Kaizen, Fishbone, and 5-Whys.
• Strictly adhering to all company safety rules and regulations and helping to maintain high 5S standards.
• Developing skills to eventually coach and develop other maintenance and operational staff through One Point Lessons (OPLs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Making recommendations for continuous improvement within the engineering environment.
