About the Role
This position is for a motivated, fleet‑oriented mechanic assistant who will support the maintenance and repair of our local delivery fleet within the baking business unit.
You will work closely with the Transport Manager and the lead mechanic to keep our trucks and vehicles operating safely, efficiently and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance and ad‑hoc repairs as defined in the maintenance plan.
- Respond to after‑hours breakdowns to keep the fleet operational.
- Maintain a clean, organized workshop and adhere to HSEMS housekeeping standards.
- Dispose of waste in designated areas in line with company and environmental policies.
- Follow lead mechanic instructions and assist as required.
- Use mechanical and electronic gauges safely and properly to prevent failures.
- Perform all work safely and in accordance with company procedures and control systems.
- Keep accurate records of work performed and parts used.
Essential Requirements
- High school diploma (Matric) is mandatory.
- Diesel mechanic qualification is an advantage.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in a fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) workshop environment.
- Familiarity with FAW, Fuso, Hino, and Nissan heavy‑vehicle models is highly desirable.
