About the Job

The Ash Handler will be based in the boiler house of Siqalo Foods in Boksburg and will report directly to the Boiler House Foreman. The primary responsibility is to support the Boiler House Foreman in managing and removing ash from coal and husk-fired boilers, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Scrape ash from the boiler using rods and move it to the ash extractor.
• Unblock ash chutes in the extractors.
• Level ash in cocopans and empty cocopans following standard operating procedures.
• Maintain tools and equipment: keep power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment in good working order and store them safely.
• Update the tool register as required.
• Implement 5S housekeeping principles—remove unused items, keep the area tidy, and store equipment correctly.
• Assist facilities staff with general tasks as needed.
• Ensure that all work complies with safety, health, environmental, risk, and quality (SHEQ) policies, including FSSC standards and company procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric (High School) Certificate.
• Basic understanding of stoking principles.
• At least 2 years of experience working in a boiler house environment.

Work Environment

As an Ash Handler, you will work in a hot and noisy boiler house environment. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn at all times.
