About the Programme
Rand Water is offering an exciting opportunity for ten (10) previously disadvantaged individuals to join our 18-month Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership Programme. This programme is designed to equip successful candidates with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and valuable workplace experience needed to operate effectively as a Procurement Officer. This role is critical in coordinating the procurement of goods and services, managing supplier contracts and negotiations, and ensuring the smooth implementation of procurement schedules.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
- Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Must not be currently employed.
- Must not be enrolled for any other qualification or registered in any other learnership programme.
- Must have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with a minimum Level 4 pass in both Mathematics Literacy and English.
- Must not be in possession of any completed post-matric qualification. (Note: Failure to disclose any post-matric qualifications will result in immediate disqualification).
- Five (5) of the positions are specifically reserved for People with Disabilities (PWDs).
Additional Requirements for People with Disabilities (PWDs):
- Applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing must be able to provide their own interpreters at their own cost, as the learnership requires the ability to hear and communicate effectively.
- Proof of disability, such as a Doctor’s Certificate/report or a signed ITRDD13 form by a registered medical doctor, must accompany the application.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Upon successful placement, learners will be responsible for the following duties:
- Developing and maintaining operational schedules for procurement and supply activities.
- Managing relationships and contracts with suppliers.
- Monitoring and measuring the performance of procurement and supply processes.
Responsibilities During the Learnership
As a learner, you will be expected to:
- Attend all scheduled classes and training sessions.
- Actively participate in discussions and activities during classes.
- Complete all assignments and projects as required by the programme.
- Write assessments and maintain a practical logbook to evaluate your knowledge and understanding.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Knowledge: An understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and its contribution to the water sector.
- Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attitude: Must be self-motivated and results-driven.
