Job Overview

We are seeking three skilled Utilities Operators to join our team at the Isando Plant. In this role, you will provide essential technical support to our Manufacturing division by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant equipment to ensure seamless business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily logging, inspections, and preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., filter replacements, oil changes, lubrication, and housekeeping).
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues on utilities equipment, including boilers, compressors, dryers, evaporative condensers, and chillers.
  • Inspect and maintain the incoming water supply system to ensure continuous operation.
  • Start and operate boilers at correct pressure levels for production requirements.
  • Monitor and operate the boiler water treatment system, ensuring Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are within specifications.
  • Report any deviations in the boiler water treatment plant, such as salt shortages in softeners.
  • Operate backup power systems (start-ups and shutdowns) during emergencies.
  • Manage compressed air systems according to business needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of hourly boiler readings and report weekly/monthly on work completed, time spent, spares used, and resources employed.
  • Continuously reference equipment drawings, engineering standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure compliance and close out jobs effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • N3 Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment.
  • Boiler Operation certificate.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in repairing mechanical, electrical, and process utilities equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of current occupational safety and health practices, including safety and equipment design regulations.
