About the Program
Omnia, together with BME & Valterra Platinum Mine, is launching a community skills development initiative to support unemployed and out‑of‑school youth in the Mogalakwena Municipality. The program focuses on safety, skills, and employability in the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments and prepare safe‑work declarations with the blaster before entering the site.
- Assist the blaster in preparing the blast area, ensuring all statutory, legal, client, and BME requirements are met.
- Inspect the site with the blaster to identify the target block and plan the blasting process.
- Mark off the working area by erecting prescribed barricades as required by the client.
- Map the blast holes accurately and verify their correct placement.
- Measure and check hole depth to confirm they fall within prescribed parameters.
- Identify any deviations from plans, communicate with mine staff or contractors, and take corrective action.
- Collect necessary accessories and support the blaster in drilling tasks.
- Place detonators and boosters at the collar of each hole, preparing for priming.
- Prime the holes by inserting detonators into boosters, attaching weigh‑down material, and lowering the primer into the hole under supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Matric certificate with minimum 40% in English, Mathematics, and Physical Science.
- No prior experience needed.
Competencies & Requirements
- English language: speak, read, and write fluently.
- No criminal record.
- No illegal drug or substance abuse.
- Medically fit for the duties.
