About the Role

Old Mutual is dedicated to unlocking Africa’s potential. We seek a high‑potential independent contractor to become a Business Consultant and support Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs). This role offers structured development, professional exposure, and real industry experience with one of South Africa’s most trusted financial services brands.

Engagement Details

Start date: 1 March 2026

Locations available: Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban

What the role involves

Foundation Phase – 4 weeks (offsite)

  • Full‑time learning immersion covering core financial services knowledge.
  • Training on adviser engagement and practice‑management skills.
  • Introduction to Old Mutual products and market insights.
  • Co‑learning with other trainee consultants.

You must be available to attend the 4‑week offsite programme and travel as required.

Field Exposure – 6 to 12 months

  • Rotate through selected branches to work with experienced Business Consultants.
  • Gain hands‑on experience in adviser servicing, sales enablement, and practice engagement.
  • Prepare to support adviser panels in the future.

Successful completion may lead to allocation of a panel of 15–30 IFAs. Core responsibilities would include:

  • Building relationships and providing practice support.
  • Delivering service excellence and technical enablement.
  • Providing market insights and facilitating growth.

Commercial Terms

A fixed monthly fee is paid during the development and field‑exposure phases. Once a panel of advisers is assigned, the role moves to a commission‑based model linked to adviser production. Contractors are responsible for their own tax affairs and operate under an Independent Contractor Agreement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Recognised 3‑year degree or diploma (any field).
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
  • Previous work experience (any industry).
  • Experience in financial services is an advantage.
  • CFP qualification is advantageous.
  • Ready to travel and be away from home during the 4‑week offsite programme.
  • Strong communication, relationship, and interpersonal skills.
  • High learning agility, resilience, and service orientation.

Soft skills and potential are heavily weighed in the selection process.
