Job Description

Based in Durban, you will work from the packing sheet, collect the required packaging and labelling, confirm accuracy, and then manually fill and pack large‑volume products (up to 25 kg) following the specifications. You will also perform quality checks, assist with sealing equipment and help maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow daily work instructions from the supervisor.
  • Read and assess the packaging sheet for volume, packaging type and other requirements.
  • Retrieve packaging and labels from storage.
  • Apply labels accurately according to the packing sheet.
  • Manually fill products from the tank, weigh them and place them into the correct bag, adjusting as necessary.
  • Monitor the product continuously for consistency and report any deviations.
  • Move filled bags to the sealing machine, remove air and operate the machine to seal.
  • Place sealed bags onto a pallet, stacking them safely and securely.
  • For smaller pack sizes (1 kg or 5 kg), decant from the tank into a half IBC and move it with a trolley jack.
  • For raw‑material repacks, decant from existing packages, verify expiry, sample and send to the lab, receive batch stickers and complete repack.
  • Manually scoop product into buckets, weigh and verify conformity with the required weight.
  • Lift and place buckets onto the pallet.
  • Complete a batch run (typically 20–25 kg bags or 100–5 kg bags per blend, 4 blends per day).
  • Clean and decontaminate the IBC between blends.
  • Work as a team with the blender and other staff to improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure housekeeping and safety in the work area, minimizing hazards.
  • Update the packing sheet accurately and hand it over to the supervisor.
  • Monitor machinery and report any issues to the workshop for investigation.

Administrative Tasks

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Submit completed and signed packing sheets on time.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and quality controls.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Wear the required PPE in designated areas.
  • Operate all machinery according to instructions and safety precautions.
  • Report non‑compliance immediately to the Health & Safety Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Some working experience preferred.
  • On‑the‑job training (minimum 3 months) to become independent.
  • External training on handling and storage of specific raw materials may be required.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements when handling chemicals.

Remuneration

The position offers a market‑related salary based on qualification and experience.
