About the Role

We are looking for an eager and detail‑oriented Pharmacy Stock Controller to join our team at Netcare. The role focuses on managing the flow of pharmaceutical stock, ensuring inventory accuracy, and supporting patient care through efficient stock control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain stock levels across the hospital, ordering additional supplies when required.
  • Support the Pharmacy Manager and Stock Coordinator with inventory processes.
  • Control the physical movement of inventory, ensuring ward levels are kept to provide high service quality.
  • Develop a clear identification system for inventory in all storage locations.
  • Manage write‑offs, losses, and inventory disputes (over/under recovery).
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for inventory.
  • Implement green procurement principles to eliminate excess or slow‑moving stock.
  • Oversee replenishment between pharmacy, wards, units, and theatre.
  • Coordinate queries about daily replenishment and update material requirement planning (MRP) levels.
  • Rotate stock using the first‑in, first‑out (FIFO) method.
  • Control and manage consumable costs for wards and theatres.
  • Keep link codes and error logs up to date to support Mobil and Mobit billing.
  • Maintain MRP rosters for Stock Clerks.
  • Standardise medical device formulary across the hospital.
  • Handle supplier back‑order issues and consignment stock.
  • Address product complaints and conduct trials in wards and theatres.
  • Keep bill of materials (BOMs) updated in the SAP system.
  • Supervise the packing of stock for theatre cases and implement surgical standardisation processes.
  • Establish and manage consignment stock systems per Netcare policy.
  • Manage supplier returns and credits.
  • Conduct stock takes – both cyclical and full rotational counts.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures for pharmacy compliance and improved controls.
  • Prepare and analyse reports such as Open Purchase Orders, Slow Moving Stock, Dead Stock, etc.
  • Complete extra care program tasks under the stock management program.
  • Assist with general office administration (filing, printing, faxing).
  • Handle routine administrative queries and resolve them within required turnaround times.
  • Implement green procurement principles throughout the hospital.
  • Attend monthly meetings and training sessions.
  • Cover duties of the Stock Coordinator when absent, including Kronos data capture and nursing staff training.
  • Create monthly shift rosters for stock staff.
  • Manage formularies, the CKS error log, BOMs, and Mobit/Mobil error resolution.
  • Perform hospital stores duties, relocate stock, and assist with formulary standardisation.
  • Support internal Orderwise, OrderCo, and stores orders.
  • Collaborate with the hospital stores department and supervise ward stock clerks/controllers.

Skill Profile

Education

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4) or equivalent.
  • Basic Stores and Stock Control Certificate (BSSC).
  • Principles of Production and Inventory Management (PPIM).

Preferred Knowledge

  • SAP knowledge is advantageous.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations with diverse stakeholders.
  • Previous supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Prior stock controller experience is advantageous.
  • Hands‑on experience with pharmaceutical stock control systems.
