Job Description

Guided by its purpose to provide products for patients to alleviate pain and suffering and improve their quality of life, the National Bioproducts Institute’s (NBI) vision is to be the leading African manufacturer and supplier of quality therapeutic proteins and diagnostic products.

National Bioproducts Institute NPC has a vacancy for an Apprentice: Instrumentation. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the GMP-compliant manufacture of pharmaceutical products by ensuring maximum uptime of process utility services supplied to manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn to perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment.
  • Conduct daily checks on machines and their support services to ensure optimal operation.
  • Evaluate and facilitate repairs of plant equipment and identify actions to prevent future issues.
  • Assist in projects associated with new plant and equipment installations.
  • Provide cross-functional support to various departments as needed.
  • Help create and manage spares inventory and participate in spares stock takes.
  • Create and interpret wiring diagrams for instrumentation systems.
  • Complete all required training as outlined by the institution to obtain the necessary qualification.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities on NBI equipment and keep accurate records.
  • Support capacity expansion projects (CAPEX) and continuous process improvements.
  • Liaise with third-party contractors for repairs that cannot be performed on-site.
  • Ensure efficient cold chain management of active raw materials.

Minimum Requirements:

  • N6 or S4 Electrical Engineering qualification (light current).
