Job Summary
Hired as a Young Employment Service (Y.E.S.) intern, you will receive 12 months of hands‑on training in a world‑class biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You will work alongside experienced Process Technicians and other production staff, learning the key processes that help produce lifesaving plasma‑derived medicines. The role is part of the National Bioproducts Institute’s (NBI) transformation and employment equity goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in equipment preparation and maintenance.
- Participate in sampling, quality checks and documentation.
- Apply cleanroom practices and follow SOPs and safety protocols.
- Support production teams across all unit operations in API manufacturing.
Requirements
- South African citizen aged 18–34.
- Grade 12 graduate with a minimum D mark in English, Mathematics, Science and Biology.
- Unemployed and not studying full‑time.
- Maximum of 2 years of work experience.
- Not previously enrolled in a Y.E.S. programme.
- Commitment to the full 12‑month programme.
- Optional: Pharmacist Assistant Training (PAT) Basic or PAT Post Basic, or tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Life Sciences.
Health, Safety & Environment (SHE)
- Pre‑employment, routine and exit medical examinations are mandatory.
- Attendance at SHE training is compulsory.
- Strict adherence to SHE instructions and site rules.
- Proper PPE usage and compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
Operational Requirements
- Shift work across 24/7 schedule: Either a 12‑hour shift (06:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00) or an 8‑hour shift (06:00–18:00) as per roster.
- Maximum 45 hours per week (sometimes 40 hours).
- Availability to work evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Possibility of overtime to meet business needs.
