Job Purpose
To meet performance targets by building operator skills, planning and controlling daily mining activities, and ensuring safety, health, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a mining crew to achieve production targets.
- Manage safety, health, and environmental issues throughout the section.
- Ensure crew competence and continuous improvement.
- Act as relieving Shift Boss when required.
- Conduct daily inspections and statutory checks (e.g., gas & ventilation).
- Perform risk assessments, rescue drills, fire patrols, and housekeeping.
- Maintain accurate operator records and valid licensing.
- Submit timely, complete section reports and SAP entries.
- Represent the Shift Boss in Operational Excellence meetings.
- Ensure material supplies are available and request resources as needed.
- Coach and develop operators, provide feedback, and address non‑conformance.
- Support implementation of organisational change and cross‑departmental projects.
Qualifications & Experience
- Completed National Senior Certificate / Full N3 (with pure Maths and English/Business English).
- Valid Blasting Certificate for Fiery Mines.
- Valid Red Ticket (or ability to obtain one).
- Gas Testing Certificate (8 gases).
- Competent A licence.
- Minimum 1 year of underground coal mining experience.

- C_Blasting Certificate (Underground)
- C_Gas Testing Certificate
- C_Flameproof Certificate
