A rewarding career opportunity is available for a suitably qualified candidate to join Lancet Laboratories as an Admin Clerk / Receptionist. This permanent position is based at the KZN – Durban Diagnos branch.
About the Role
The Admin Clerk / Receptionist is a vital part of our laboratory operations. You will be responsible for administering the receiving, capturing, and distribution of all samples to ensure correct information is obtained and recorded. Your work will facilitate the speedy processing of samples and help us meet our service objectives and turnaround times.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- A Grade 12 certificate or a relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
- A BSc Degree, while not mandatory, will be considered a strong advantage.
- 0-1 years of relevant working experience.
- Familiarity with organisational policy procedures.
- Must be computer literate and have experience with laboratory information systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer the sorting and distribution of samples according to set standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the correct and prioritised channelling of specimens to various laboratories.
- Process sample registration (“logging”) and handle related queries in compliance with SOPs.
- Dispatch specimens for processing, monitor their progress, and ensure the filing and delivery of reports, handling any queries within the prescribed turnaround time.
- Perform hospital rounds to distribute reports and collect submitted samples for processing.
- Handle and refer administrative queries and customer complaints to ensure their timely resolution.
- Track the progress of sample deliveries by couriers to ensure specimens are received by the designated laboratory, processed, and results are returned timeously.
- Investigate bottlenecks in pre-analytical laboratory processes to ensure timely resolution of challenges.
- Maintain basic housekeeping in your own working area, including the suitable cleaning and preparation of equipment.
- Monitor stock levels, place orders for additional stock to ensure availability, and manage delivery to doctors’ rooms.
- Represent the organisation professionally by applying the principles of customer care in the medical pathology field and interact ethically with medical professionals and staff.
- Manage the reception area, provide relevant information to clients, and direct them to the appropriate departments while offering excellent customer service.
- Receive cash payments from patients and ensure the banking of monies is done in accordance with relevant SOPs.
- Report incidents, log customer complaints and problem solutions, and action tasks on the laboratory information management system.
- Prepare and scan patient forms onto the laboratory scanning system (Oculus) and resolve any scanning incompletes.
- Adhere strictly to Lancet uniform protocols as per set standard operating procedures.

Remuneration
