About the Job

This position focuses on maintaining safe and efficient lamp room (lamproom) operations within the mining sector. The Lampsman works closely with lamp room operators, supervisors, and other stakeholders to meet high safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily tasks in line with DMR guidelines and the mine code of practice.
  • Offer legal and competent services, and communicate effectively between the lamp room and relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare, review, and confirm legal documents before filing or distribution.
  • Oversee daily administrative duties and ensure compliance.
  • Resolve customer complaints and grievances quickly and professionally.
  • Coordinate lamp room operators during their daily tasks.
  • Maintain and monitor lamp room equipment, reporting failures and repairs to the technician.
  • Control key usage during shifts.
  • Keep up to date with internal and external procedures, schedules, and directives; attend required training.
  • Ensure housekeeping in the area of responsibility is clean and safe.
  • Work with supervisors, customers, visitors, and staff to promote quality and safety.
  • Provide administrative support: typing, filing, data entry, and documentation management.
  • Keep supervisors informed of problems that may affect customers or the company.
  • Participate in company quality programs and suggest innovative solutions to improve lamp room operations.
  • Create training programmes for operators, administrators, and junior Lampsmen.
  • Ensure medical registrations and inductions are valid; use personal protective equipment.
  • Adhere to the company’s Quality Management System, procedures, and policies.
  • Act professionally to represent the company within the mining community.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric or equivalent with Mathematics and Physical Science at higher grade (Grade E) or standard grade (D symbol).
  • National Lampman certificate.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Lampsman, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Basic knowledge of lamp room equipment and tools.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
  • Medically fit.
