About the Employer
The Gauteng Provincial Government, Department of Health, is looking to build a skilled dental team to serve our communities. The role is open to dental assistants at entry level, under both Grade 1 and Grade 2 categories.
Salary & Benefits
- Grade 1: R217 092 – R248 226 per annum (plus benefits)
- Grade 2: R252 480 – R294 249 per annum (plus benefits)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist in all procedures, including mixing materials and sterilising instruments.
- Maintain infection control, hazardous waste management, and general cleaning of the clinic.
- Develop X‑rays where required.
- Assist in the operating theatre and during oral hygiene screening sessions.
- Liaise with other dental clinics and health programmes.
- Handle administrative duties such as opening patient files, recording services, inventory control, booking appointments and reporting equipment maintenance needs.
Requirements
Applicants must be:
- Grade 12 certified with a National Certificate in Dental Assisting, or possess prior experience as a dental assistant registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Hold valid registration with HPCSA as a dental assistant.
- Have a valid manual driver’s licence (exceptionally held for persons with disabilities).
- Graduated into Grade 1: £1‑9 years of experience as a dental assistant; Grade 2: minimum 10 years of experience.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.

Candidate eligibility checks will include a personnel suitability assessment (criminal record, citizenship, credit, qualification and employment verification), a skills test if required, and medical surveillance under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
