Position Summary
The Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the Gauteng Department of e‑Government’s facilities. Duties include access control, patrol, emergency response, and monitoring of surveillance systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Control visitor access – verify appointments, confirm with employees, issue visitor badges.
- Operate X‑ray and metal detectors to screen for prohibited items.
- Conduct regular patrols to ensure all doors, locks, fire safety, and electrical hazards are in order.
- Respond to alarm triggers and emergency situations, following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment, documentation, and assets.
- Inspect vehicles entering and leaving the premises.
- Operate CCTV and other security equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
- Document incidents and report them to the supervisor.
- Lock up offices and access points after hours.
- Identify and report suspicious activities or breaches.
Requirements
- Grade 10.
- Grade C – Security training from a PSIRA recognised centre.
- Valid PSIRA Grade C certificate.
- No prior experience required.
- Knowledge of government structure, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Understanding of access control, asset movement, and security procedures (MIS, NISA, Protection of Information Act).
- Familiarity with emergency procedures.
