Job Title: Fixed Assets Officer

Organisational Unit: University of Mpumalanga → Finance → Revenue & Expenditure → Asset Management

Job Purpose

To ensure accurate and timely recording, tracking, and reporting of fixed assets in accordance with accounting standards and the university’s policy. The role involves managing the full asset lifecycle – acquisition, tagging, movement, depreciation, and disposal – and maintaining a compliant asset register that supports financial reporting, audits, and operational planning.

Key Performance Areas

  • Receipting of movable and immovable assets.
  • Accurate and timely recording and updating of the fixed asset register.
  • Monthly reconciliations of asset management accounts.
  • Physical verification of assets.
  • Updating the asset disposal register promptly.
  • Coordinating with asset management stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Honors (M + 3) in a relevant field or a degree in accounting.
  • At least 3 years of experience in fixed asset management.
  • Experience in asset management within higher education is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of ITS systems and/or other relevant accounting software.

Key Competencies

  • Proficient in asset accounting and reporting.
  • Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective time management.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
