About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Internal Compliance Officer to join the Umsuka WeMali Finance team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Group Financial Director and will play a key part in developing, implementing and executing our risk and compliance strategy. This role requires a strong understanding of South African and Swaziland legislation and a hands‑on approach to KYC/AML processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and manage compliance risk across the organization.
  • Conduct compliance monitoring, reviews and audits of internal controls.
  • Determine statutory and managerial requirements for all clients.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures to support compliance.
  • Build and nurture relationships with business units and line managers.
  • Provide ad‑hoc advice on regulatory and operational risks.
  • Escalate material non‑compliance matters to appropriate forums.
  • Coordinate with the FSCA, NCR and other regulators as required.
  • Maintain documentation of compliance procedures and audit adherence.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to bodies such as FIC, NCR and FSCA.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational: A degree (preferably in law) or equivalence.
  • Certification: Compliance Management certification.
  • Professional membership: Compliance Institute of South Africa or other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Experience: 3–6 years in the compliance industry, ideally in credit lending.
  • Knowledge: South African legislation (FSRA, NCR, FAIS, FICA) and Swaziland legislation; KYC/AML onboarding, periodic reviews, and escalation procedures.
  • Skills: Strong risk‑management track record, ability to design compliance controls and write high‑quality regulatory reports.
  • Personal attributes: Integrity, discretion, ownership mindset and clear communication.
  • Administrative: Excellent interpersonal and computer literacy.
  • Transportation: Must own reliable transportation.
