Purpose of the Role
The Warehouse Operator for Loose Case and Layer Picking plays a crucial role in our logistics operations. The main purpose of this position is to accurately select, pack, and count products based on picking instructions. This role is essential for ensuring the efficient fulfillment of customer orders, maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality, and adhering to strict safety protocols. By performing these duties effectively, the Warehouse Operator helps ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse and contributes directly to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately select and gather required products or items based on picking instructions for both loose case and layer picking.
- Securely and efficiently pack picked items, ensuring proper packaging materials are used, labels are applied correctly, and quality standards are met.
- Maximize pallet stability during the picking process, taking into account in-transit conditions and the types of delivery vehicles used.
- Count and verify picked items to ensure orders are complete and accurate.
- Identify and report out-of-stock or short-picked items during the picking process.
- Use picking equipment to navigate the warehouse and locate products efficiently.
- Work closely with the inventory control team to maintain accurate inventory records and report any discrepancies or issues found during picking.
- Keep the work area clean and organized to promote efficiency and minimize errors.
- Communicate any concerns about product quality or packaging, such as damaged goods or incorrect labeling, to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Participate in training programs or workshops to improve picking skills, learn new techniques, and stay updated on warehouse operating procedures.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company policies.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate risks.
- Help establish and maintain a safe work environment, ensuring overall safety compliance.
- Operate within established safety standards at all times.
- Contribute to the overall achievement of the team’s goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience of 1-3 years in a similar role, preferably within the FMCG Retail industry.
- Valid Electric Pallet Jack License.
