Job Summary

This is a permanent position within the Emergency Medical Services Directorate. The role involves providing emergency medical care, transportation and basic administrative duties for patients across the Nelson Mandela Metro EMS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical care and transportation according to HPCSA protocols.
  • Complete basic administration tasks, including patient records, vehicle checklists and log sheets.
  • Maintain and clean all medical equipment, vehicles and base station facilities.
  • Facilitate inter‑facility transfers of patients as required.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 1

  • National Senior Certificate.
  • Successful completion of an appropriate Basic Life Support (BLS) course allowing registration with HPCSA as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA).
  • Registered with the HPCSA as a BAA.
  • Knowledge of Basic Life Support protocols.
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s profile (PDP).

Grade 3

  • Successful completion of an appropriate Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course allowing registration with HPCSA as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).
  • Registered with the HPCSA as an AEA.
  • Knowledge of Intermediate Life Support protocols.
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s profile (PDP).
