About the Role
Dis‑Chem’s Three Rivers store is looking for a Dispensary Support to join our team. This role is designed to support the learning path for the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. Successfully completing the course will allow transition to a permanent position once you are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and other scheduled substances.
- Help with compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non‑sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
- Support the unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of stock and OTC shelves.
- Assist in interpreting prescriptions, ensuring accuracy, and complying with legal requirements.
- Help with accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication.
- Manage the control of stock, including expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
- Follow up with patients regarding prescription tracking reports and appointment reminders.
- Support call‑centre scripts and patient service telephone calls.
- Provide health information to individuals and promote healthy choices.
- Assist with scheme authorisation for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Report stock errors, low–or–out‑of‑stock levels to the Dispensary Manager.
- Receive and organize dispensary stock according to company SOPs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
Essential Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate with a minimum of 50 % in Pure Mathematics and either Life Sciences or Physical Sciences.
- Completion of a proficiency test approving registration with the Pharmacy Council as a learner basic assistant.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear national identity, criminal record, and credit status.

- Fluency in English and a second local language.
- Strong time‑management skills; able to work against deadlines and under pressure.
- Excellent communication, listening, customer‑service orientation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Team player with conflict‑management ability and a professional, trustworthy approach.
- Computer literacy and numerical competence.
Advantageous
- Previous retail FMCG or front‑shop experience at Dis‑Chem.
- Knowledge of drug and family‑planning products and complementary medicine.
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E‑Scripting systems.
