Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Casual Merchandiser for its Vaal Mall store. The role involves maintaining high merchandising standards and providing friendly customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Restock merchandise to maximise sales.
• Store and pack delivered stock correctly and on time.
• Check that shelf stock is not past its sell‑by date.
• Keep the full range of products available on the shelves.
• Rotate stock regularly using FIFO (first in, first out).
• Report low stock levels, out‑of‑stock items, damaged or expired stock.
• Assist with stock counting and general stocktaking.
• Follow Dis‑Chem’s operating standards, store layout and planograms.
• Flatten packaging after unpacking and move boxes to the designated area.
• Present front shop shelves neatly with correct labels and pricing.
• Report any price discrepancies.
• Stay updated on current and new products.
• Build, face up and maintain merchandising displays.
• Maintain daily physical upkeep of the store and displays.
• Assist with loading and unloading stock.
• Label items that do not have barcodes.
• Support back‑shopping activities.
• Help train new staff members.
• Offer friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to customers.
• Use the out‑of‑stock list to follow up customer queries.
• Resolve customer stock queries efficiently.
• Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
• Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
• Abide by Dis‑Chem policies, SOPs, and health and safety rules.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Up to 6 months of retail experience.
• Computer literate – MS Office.
• Willing and able to work retail hours.

Preferred

• At least 1 year of retail experience.

• Strong command of the English language.
• Professional appearance.
• Effective engagement with customers, management and staff.
• Trustworthy and honest.
• Good time‑management skills.

Advantageous

• Bilingual.
• Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
• Product and category knowledge.
• Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking.
• Report suspicious behaviour involving staff and customers.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to work retail hours.
• Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while observing health and safety standards.
• Reliable transport or live near the store.
• South African citizen.
• Clear credit and criminal records.
