Role Overview
The GIT programme offers new graduates hands‑on experience in a cross‑functional environment. As a Mechatronic Engineer you’ll work on the Aerospace Systems Impact Area within the Defence & Security cluster, under the guidance of experienced researchers and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with electromechanical upgrades, installations and maintenance of wind tunnel plant electrical systems.
- Support energy management, troubleshoot motor and control system faults, and help with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley).
- Design and install power‑factor correction (PFC) devices and support instrumentation/sensor installation and commissioning.
- Help manage electrical, mechanical and electromechanical projects, ensuring timelines and safety standards.
- Assist with variable speed and frequency drives (VSD/VFD), automation design, and PCB creation.
- Collaborate with engineers and maintenance teams to improve operational efficiency.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and help produce technical reports.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronic Engineering or related field.
- Experience using CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for drafting electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and industrial automation.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills for reporting and data analysis.
- Good academic performance and strong interpersonal skills.
- Problem‑solving, analytical thinking, and teamwork.
- Clear and effective communication in English (oral and written).
- South African citizenship, eligible for security clearance.
