About the role

We are looking for a motivated intern to support our Safety Specialist in maintaining and improving employee safety at our Hoogekraal site. You will help ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, reduce workplace injuries, and create a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the implementation of safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Help deliver safety training to employees and contractors.
• Advise employees on safety‑related matters and enforce compliance.
• Review, update, and maintain safety programs, SOPs, and work instructions.
• Support new employee onboarding with safety requirements.
• Coordinate medical examinations with IHS and follow up as needed.
• Identify safety bottlenecks, conduct risk assessments, and propose solutions.
• Assist with audits, corrective actions, and root‑cause investigations.
• Carry out other safety tasks as directed by the manager.

Who you are

• Currently studying or holding a National Diploma / bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
• Have or are willing to complete a SAMTRAC‑NOSA course.
• Minimum Grade 12/Matric qualification.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
