Key Requirements

Education:

  • Matric qualification
  • Relevant NQF 5 qualification
  • Completion of the RE 5 Examination Level 1
  • Knowledge of Commercial and Personal Lines Class of Business

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of claims handling experience with a claims settling mandate
  • At least 5 years of experience within the Short Term Insurance industry

Principal Responsibilities

  • Register motor and non-motor claims for personal and commercial policies
  • Appoint and manage assessors
  • Ensure sufficient cover and accurate capturing and updating of data systems
  • Handle and settle claims from start to finalisation
  • Gather and verify information from clients and parties involved
  • Examine claim details and policy coverage
  • Consult with team members to determine claim outcomes
  • Communicate claim decisions to clients in writing
  • Refer complex claims to loss adjusters when necessary
  • Determine claim merits based on investigation findings
  • Settle claims within established parameters
  • Gather necessary documentation for claim settlement or rejection
  • Adjust reserves as needed
  • Arrange car hire for clients when required
  • Coordinate contractors to assist with document retrieval
  • Manage the salvage process for motor and non-motor claims
  • Follow up with loss adjusters and assessors
  • Negotiate claims with clients, service providers, and the insurance market
  • Maintain detailed, dated notes on claim discussions
  • Address potential errors and omissions promptly
  • Ensure completion and proper filing of claim files
  • Update systems daily, including diaries and mail
  • Provide prompt feedback and resolve complaints
  • Submit reports and feedback to insurers as required
  • Ensure a positive claims experience for clients
  • Maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, and service providers
  • Update policy information after claim completion
  • Keep records of all reports submitted to clients
