Job Overview

The City of Tshwane is recruiting nine General Workers to support construction and maintenance activities at the Atteridgeville Depot. The position is part of the Regional Operations team and involves general hard labour to assist artisans, truck drivers, skilled workers and supervisors.

Remuneration

• Job Level: T1
• Scale: R159 936.00 – R186 936.00 per annum
• Estimated Remuneration Package: R236 535.00 – R270 901.00 per annum

Key Responsibilities

• Dig trenches with a pickaxe.
• Sweep streets with brooms.
• Load construction material onto trucks.
• Paint street lines where instructed.
• Repair road traffic signs.
• Place temporary traffic signs on roads as directed by the supervisor.
• Repair potholes using hot asphalt.
• Clean storm water systems.
• Clean toilets using water and cleaning materials.
• Assist in functions at stone quarry operations.

Essential Requirements

• Ability to perform a wide range of physically demanding tasks.
• Basic literacy and communication skills.
• Preferred: Prior experience performing hard labour on construction sites.
• Good physical fitness and overall health suitable for hard labour.
• Willingness to undergo a criminal record check and allow fingerprints to be taken at the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost.
• Availability to work shifts, standby duty and overtime as required.
