About the Role
The Artisan Assistant will work under the Electrical and Instrument Chargehand in the Maintenance Department of Bidvest Tank Terminals at Richards Bay. Your primary job will be to support artisans in daily maintenance activities, inspections, and minor electrical and instrumentation tasks that do not require specialist oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the comprehensive maintenance program to keep equipment available and running efficiently.
- Help artisans during scheduled maintenance and unexpected breakdowns.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area.
- Disposal of waste in compliance with company and environmental regulations.
- Tag and return any removed equipment to the stores department.
- Keep all tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Carry out periodic inspection of equipment.
- Complete all required preventive maintenance checklists.
- Remove and install minor equipment as directed.
- Support ship connection/disconnection preparations.
- Assist with project work when required.
- Operate basic tools and machinery safely.
Minimum Requirements
- Highest school qualification: Grade 12 or a National Certificate.
- Basic engineering knowledge – preferably in Instrumentation or Electrical.
- Minimum of 2 years of engineering work experience in a petrochemical setting or an equivalent environment.
- Understanding of safety management (NOSA).
