A vacancy exists for an experienced Accountant at our insurance client’s office in Cape Town. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and play a key role in supporting the accounting function while driving process improvements.

About the Role

In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and identifying opportunities for process enhancements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the business’s accounting function to ensure seamless financial operations.
  • Accurately capturing and reporting financial transactions.
  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements, reports, and reconciliations.
  • Compiling and preparing monthly and year-end reconciliations.
  • Identifying and resolving accounting issues or discrepancies.
  • Investigating and addressing outstanding queries related to accounting matters.
  • Participating in credit control and retention processes.
  • Processing transactions on the policy administration system with attention to operational and client impact.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly reports to insurers, reinsurers, and intermediaries.
  • Verifying the accuracy of premium transactions and system data.
  • Performing reconciliations for group scheme members and resolving differences with stakeholders.
  • Conducting reconciliation and completeness checks between the line of business system and data warehouse reports.
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Ensuring all company reporting deadlines are met.
  • Contributing to the improvement of financial management systems and processes.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, and external partners.

Technical Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Financial Management or Accounting.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of finance experience beyond article experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Solid understanding of financial accounting principles, business processes, and risks.
  • Strong analytical skills.
