Kick-Start Your Career with the South Deep Cadet Programme
Are you a young person from one of our host communities looking to launch your professional journey? The South Deep Cadet Programme, part of the South Deep Social Development Programme and the National Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, offers a 12‑month learning experience for unemployed youth with no formal work experience.
You will receive on‑the‑job training, safety education, and practical skills under the guidance of seasoned mining professionals. Completing the programme will make you more employable within or beyond the mining sector.

Who We Are Looking For
Preference will be given to:
- Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) youth aged 18–34.
- Applicants from the following host communities: Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, Jachtfontein, and Westonaria Borwa.
To qualify as a host community applicant, you must:
- Be a matriculated resident of one of the listed communities, or
- Have obtained Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate or equivalent) from a host community school.
Candidate Requirements
- Fluent in English, spoken and written.
- Currently unemployed with no prior formal work experience.
- Willing to work underground and/or in surface risk areas, including rotational shifts or extended hours.
- Capable of passing pre‑employment checks, including assessments, qualification verification, security clearance, and obtaining a certificate of fitness from the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.
