Introduction

Eskom, through its Distribution Division, is excited to join the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative. This is a public-private partnership led by the Presidency to address South Africa’s youth unemployment challenge. The programme gives unemployed young people a chance to gain their first important work experience in one of the country’s key industries: energy and electricity supply.

Successful candidates will be placed in Eskom operations across all provinces for a 12-month work experience contract. This opportunity helps build skills and prepares participants for future careers in the energy sector.

Available YES Opportunities (2025 Intake)

1. Administration & Office Support

Positions Available:
- Senior Clerk General Administration (Nelspruit)
- Principal Clerk (Witbank)
- Human Resources (Witbank / Nelspruit)
- Credit Management (Witbank)
- Debt Management (Witbank)
- Finance (Nelspruit)
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Mathematics, Physics, and Accounting are advantageous)
- A post-matric qualification or certificate is beneficial but not required

These roles involve supporting daily administrative tasks, managing records, handling customer inquiries, and assisting with financial or HR processes. You will learn how to organize office operations and contribute to efficient team support in Eskom’s distribution network.

2. Technical & Engineering

Positions Available:
- Technical Official (Nelspruit, Emalahleni & LimLanga Cluster)
- Technical Official – LimLanga TO (Emalahleni)
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification and/or a post-matric certificate
- N3 in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical qualification is preferred

In these positions, you will assist with technical maintenance, inspections, and support for electrical infrastructure. This is an entry-level role to develop hands-on skills in engineering and technical operations, helping to ensure reliable electricity supply in local areas.

3. Customer Service

Positions Available:
- Service Representatives (Emalahleni & Mbombela)
Responsibilities:
- Handle customer queries, provide information on services, and maintain Eskom’s high service standards across operational clusters
- Assist with complaints resolution and promote customer satisfaction

These roles focus on interacting directly with customers, either in person or over the phone, to resolve issues related to electricity supply, billing, and connections. You will play a key part in building trust and improving service delivery in communities.

4. Warehousing & Logistics

Positions Available:
- YES Warehousing (Witbank / Nelspruit)
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
- N3 in Electrical Engineering or a relevant post-matric programme

You will support inventory management, stock control, and logistics for materials used in electricity distribution. This includes receiving, storing, and issuing supplies while learning safety protocols and efficient warehouse operations.

5. Information Technology

Positions Available:
- Information Technology (Emalahleni)
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
- Post-matric qualification in IT or Finance-related studies is preferred

These roles involve basic IT support, data entry, and assisting with technology tools used in operations. You will gain experience in troubleshooting software, maintaining systems, and supporting digital processes in Eskom’s technical environment.

Minimum Requirements (All Positions)

Be aged between 18 and 34 years
Have a Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
Not have participated in the YES initiative before
Not be permanently employed with any employer for more than one year
Not be studying full-time during the year of employment
