About the Role

The Credit Controller reports to the Senior Credit Controller. The position focuses on collecting payments, keeping credit records up to date, and ensuring all payment plans are followed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect payments on outstanding accounts according to the aging schedule.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures for each aging bucket.
  • Handle inbound calls and meet outbound call quotas.
  • Achieve monthly collection targets and reduce portfolio risk.
  • Monitor and enforce payment plans.
  • Escalate and resolve billing, statements, and payment queries.
  • Act immediately on debit‑order returns and re‑activate rejected orders.
  • Follow up on promises to pay (PTPs) and keep accurate status notes in the Excalibur system.
  • Manage account holds, suspensions, and handovers to CSCC/NSCC.
  • Send appropriate e‑mail and letter communications for overdue accounts.
  • Prepare and process adjustments, refunds, transfers, and bursaries.
  • Record and investigate credit balance issues.
  • Support admissions with pro‑rata calculations for cancellations.
  • Assist with other administrative duties as required.
  • Resolve student and payer queries via FreshDesk (VC Assist) and walk‑ins.
  • Build cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality standards for emails, calls, letters, and record‑keeping.
  • Generate and submit reports to CSCC/NSCC.

Required Competencies

  • In‑depth knowledge of credit control processes.
  • Familiarity with accounts receivable, debit orders, and bank statements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Accurate numerical skills.
  • Organised, friendly, and able to work accurately under pressure.
  • Honest, trustworthy, and ethical conduct.
  • Good time‑management skills.
  • Ability to produce basic reports using Microsoft Office.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of Matric; additional credit management, bookkeeping or finance qualification is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years of credit control experience.
