We are looking for motivated, hardworking individuals to join our team as Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic Apprentices. This apprenticeship provides hands‑on experience and the chance to build valuable skills in a supportive, professional environment.

Role Overview

The apprenticeship is linked to the 97582 – Occupational Certificate: Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic Apprenticeship). The aim is to prepare the learner to work as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment such as earthmoving or mining machines, including engines, mechanical parts, and hydraulic or electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Dismantle, assess, repair, and reassemble engine and power‑train components.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in diesel engines and power‑train systems.
  • Complete the apprenticeship programme in line with MERSETA and the company’s limited‑duration contract requirements.
  • Adhere to all agreed bursary and internal agreements.

Requirements

Minimum entry level: Grade 12 with pass in English, Mathematics, and Science. Preferred qualifications include:

  • N‑4 Mathematics
  • N‑4 Engineering Drawing / Industrial Electronics
  • N‑4 Engineering Science
  • Motor/Diesel Trade Theory
  • Engineering and Related Design (NCV Certificate)
  • More than 4 years of working experience as an artisan aid (for RPL)

Progression: Prior to completing Phase 2 (N4 Diesel Trade Theory), the learner must achieve N‑4 Mathematics, Engineering Drawing/Industrial Electronics, and Engineering Science to advance to Phase 3 (N3 Diesel Trade Theory).
