Bursary – Railway Safety Regulator (RSR)

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a public entity established under Section 4 of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act No.16 of 2002. Its core mandate is to oversee and enforce safety performance across all railway operators in South Africa, including those from neighboring states whose rail operations extend into the country.

The RSR invites South African school leavers and students aged 15–35 who are studying or wish to pursue undergraduate studies at recognised and accredited institutions of higher learning (TVET colleges, Universities of Technology, and public or private universities) in the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Human Resources Management
  • Media and Communications
  • Law
  • Financial Management
  • Internal Audit
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Risk Management

Eligibility Requirements

  • South African citizen aged 15–35 years.
  • Not currently receiving financial assistance through any other sponsorship or bursary scheme.
  • Available for an interview when requested and willing to sign a Bursary Agreement.
  • Must submit proof of registration/admission and evidence that they are eligible to study the specified qualification at the relevant institution.
  • For first‑year applicants, Grade 11 results or Grade 12 mid‑term results showing a minimum average of 65% must be submitted.

Application Requirements (Supporting Documents)

  • Certified copy of admission/registration letter for the academic year you are applying for.
  • Certified copy of the latest official Academic Record (if currently at a tertiary institution) or Grade 11 results/Grade 12 mid‑term results (if still in matric).
  • Certified copy of identification document (ID).
  • Motivational letter.
  • Quote of the academic year’s tuition fees.

Closing Date: 23 December 2025

Applications must be completed and submitted by 23 December 2025. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. The RSR reserves the right to withdraw its bursary invitation without awarding any bursaries.
