Position Summary

The Gauteng Department: e‑Government is hiring two Security Officers to manage access control, maintain safety procedures, and support overall security operations within our Johannesburg premises.

Responsibilities

  • Control visitor access: verify appointments, confirm with relevant staff, and escort visitors as needed.
  • Operate security equipment: X‑ray machines, walk‑through metal detectors, CCTV, and alarm systems.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the building to check locks, fire hazards, water leaks, and other safety issues.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms, report incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Record all security incidents and maintain the occurrence book.
  • Ensure that equipment, documents, and stores cannot enter or leave the premises without authorization.
  • Inspect vehicles, review movement logs, and report suspicious activity.
  • Apply emergency protocols for situations such as bomb scares or riots.
  • Prepare and submit reports on non‑compliance and security breaches.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Grade 10 education.
  • Grade C – Security training at a PSIRA registered/recognized centre.
  • Valid PSIRA Grade C certification.
  • Knowledge of general government sector, organisational structure, and related regulations.
  • Familiarity with access control procedures and relevant security legislation.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and customer management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficient report writing.
  • Leadership, strategic planning and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be decisive, and promote teamwork.

Non‑RSA citizens or permanent residents with foreign qualifications must provide an SAQA evaluation report.

Applicants will undergo a pre‑entry practical exercise and, if appointed, will need to complete the SMS Pre‑Entry Programme offered by the National School of Government.

Interviews will be scheduled by the Gauteng Department: e‑Government. Successful candidates must obtain a positive security clearance through the standard suitability checks.
