Job Summary

Exxaro Resources is looking for an Artisan Aide to support our Matla Coal team in Kriel. In this role you will help service, maintain, and overhaul heavy equipment alongside experienced artisans. Your work will keep machinery running smoothly, prevent breakdowns, and support a safe, efficient work environment. This is a contract position offered to talented, responsible, and collaborative individuals.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist artisans with routine servicing, maintenance, and overhauls of equipment.
• Conduct first‑level inspections and basic fault‑finding on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Support maintenance of production machinery, ensuring timely repairs to avoid downtime.
• Recondition components and spares, testing repaired equipment for functionality.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and promote a safe work culture.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, restoring equipment availability and reporting issues to supervisors.
• Perform basic welding, cutting, and refractory installation tasks under guidance.
• Collaborate closely with team members, respecting diverse backgrounds and focusing on safety and ethical behavior.
• Remain flexible and proactive, embracing continuous learning and innovative solutions to improve operations.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 Technical qualification required.
• AET Level 4 qualification required.
• Relevant Skills Programs: AA Fitting inc Machinery, AA Diesel Mechanic, AA Plater Welder, or AA Electrical (any of these is acceptable).
• At least one year of technical support experience in a heavy‑industry environment.
• Basic fault‑finding and analytical skills.
• Capacity to conduct first‑level inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Basic welding, cutting, and refractory installation skills.
• Commitment to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Psychometric assessment and Certificate of Fitness to be completed by Exxaro.
