Laboratory In‑Service Trainee

Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

About the Role

As a Laboratory In‑Service Trainee, you will support production by analysing raw material, in‑process, and final product samples, and ensuring lab equipment is accurately calibrated. You will work with BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions (ECMS), a global leader in catalysts and precious metals, which operates 15 countries and 20 production sites worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all EH&S guidelines and complete tasks safely.
• Analyse raw material, in‑process, and final product samples.
• Prepare samples and conduct measurements with repeatability and precision.
• Record results in SAP_QM, compare them against specifications, and decide whether to release or hold products.
• Calibrate and verify laboratory equipment.
• Handle, store, and dispose of test samples and chemicals safely.
• Ship test samples as required.
• Assist in writing or revising laboratory work instructions and processes.

What We Expect

• Studying towards a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or a higher qualification in Chemistry.
• Minimum laboratory experience.
• Ability to manage high workload volumes and meet tight deadlines.
