Job Purpose
As a Locomotive Driver, you will manoeuvre trains from the exchange yard to loading and offloading points across various Sasol business units within the Secunda complex. Your primary goal is to move freight efficiently, safely, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete theoretical and practical training according to Sasol’s training academy standards.
- Shunt and haul trains within Sasol Secunda boundaries using TFR/Sasol exchange yards.
- Operate trains safely and in line with training standards, ensuring cargo reaches destinations on time and in good condition.
- Carry out administrative duties related to train services and other operational matters.
- Maintain safety of the train and the surrounding area, following all safety regulations and train working rules.
- Give clear operational instructions to rail operators and supervise all activities on footplate.
- Communicate effectively under pressure to meet daily performance targets.
- Coordinate with the Rail Controller and other personnel when dealing with abnormal conditions.
- Move loads ranging from 40 wagons (2,000 t) to 71 wagons (3,600 t), including containers and hazardous materials.
Qualifications
Formal Education: Matric / Grade 12
Working Experience: Minimum 2 years in a relevant role
Certification: Competency certificate for locomotive drivers
