Junior Payroll Officer

About the role
The Junior Payroll Officer will manage and maintain employee records and process all payroll related tasks, including salaries, subsistence, travel claims, and leave. You will also be responsible for preparing monthly reports and ensuring compliance with the PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and submit monthly payroll changes and adjustments for review.
- Prepare and submit reconciliation of monthly salary payments.
- Prepare and submit subsistence and travel (S & T) claims, including third‑party payments.
- Reconcile leave transactions on a monthly basis.
- Reconcile month‑end payroll accounts (salaries, S & T, leave, etc.).
- Generate and distribute monthly payslips and IRP5 certificates.
- Advise employees on tax, medical aid, and pension matters.
- Prepare and submit month‑end reports as required.
- Administer and safeguard employee payroll records.
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 6 Diploma or degree in Finance or Human Resources.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in payroll management.
- Understanding and application of PFMA & Treasury Regulations.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Proficient use of payroll software, especially SAGE 300 People (Accpac).
- Familiarity with SARS e‑filing and Easyfile employer portals.
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
- Lateral thinking and problem‑solving ability.
